Afidence Applause Goes To Christine Olding

As an owner of a business, you always want the people you are working with to have integrity, to be kind, to be frugal, but wise . . . so I just wanted to share a small, yet telling cool thing that our Exec Admin did recently. Christine had stopped at Target to pick up an extra power strip and some storage boxes. It turns out Target charged us for the power strip 2x, but not the storage boxes. It was a mistake to our advantage by a few dollars. Once she realized the mistake, Christine called Target and they said they would make a note of it. When Christine was at Target a few days later, she alerted them to what happened and had them fix the problem. Another customer in line remarked that she couldn’t believe Christine was doing what she did and thanked her for being honest.

My husband always says about people who use expired coupons, “Is your character worth just $.35?” Or in this case, a few dollars?

So, Christine . . . you get the nod (again), the Afidence Applause for being honest, for having integrity, especially in the everyday, small things. Thank you!

We were so encouraged to read an article about a company that still believes in the value of customer service. What an awesome company! Mini, a branch of BMW, was able to accept that they made a mistake, fix it, and even manage to have some fun doing so. We love it!

Any Ideas for Mother’s Day?

First off, Afidence and Red Cedar Union would like to send out a GIANT thank you to all the mothers out there! Second, this is a reminder to the families that Mother’s Day IS coming soon. (May 12th, to be exact.) It’s time to go out, if you haven’t already, and find a special gift for the mothers, grandmothers, aunts, and neighbors out there. Gift ideas are beginning to run low, as the idea of flowers and chocolate grows older. In talking with my own mother, a few ideas have come up for various gifts. A few of our ideas were stationary, chocolate covered strawberries (a personal favorite), long-time-in-the-making items knocked off the “honey-do” list (always a good idea), a pedicure or manicure, or even a “day away” pass, where she can be by herself and not worry about the kids. Something home made and heart felt is another good idea! I would love to hear of any of your gift ideas for this Mother’s Day, or even gifts that weren’t such a good idea. Hope to hear from you!

Concert Review!

We had a blast at the Michael W. Smith benefit concert! I enjoyed hearing all of the songs that I used to listen to as a child, and it was even more amazing in person. The Christian music legend has definitely still got it! Here are some fun facts about Michael W. Smith, for some of his fans out there! He was born in west Virginia, and later moved to Nashville where he currently resides. His wife wrote the lyrics to his popular song “Friends” in under ten minutes when a friend was leaving town. Lastly, Smith turned down a lead role position in the movie “Hope Floats” with Sandra Bullock. Who knew? Here are a few pictures from our night at the Underground!

The “Cincinnati Scurry” Review

The A-Team had an awesome time participating in the “Cincinnati Scurry” on April 26th. What is “The Scurry”, you ask? Well, to start, this event includes a multitude of exciting challenges including, teamwork, geographical knowledge, problem-solving, and a teammates willingness to be embarrassed. A team of four scurries around downtown Cincinnati in a race to complete all the tasks before the opposing teams. Proceeds of the race went to a program called “Learning is cool”, encouraging students all over the city to work hard in school. Our team had a blast!

I know we say it all the time around here, but at Afidence we are SO blessed with great people to work with and today, we want to say a GIANT THANK YOU to our very own Christine Olding. She’s been with us for 18 months now and we could not have chosen or hoped for a better Executive Administrative Assistant! She’s got it covered, she’s always thinking ahead, and she does it all with a ‘can do’ attitude and a warm smile! She’s the Afidence “verb” . . . just Christine it!
